I was born and raised in the Lower Mainland but spent some time in Calgary, Alberta attending school and playing university hockey, which was a huge part of my identity growing up. Throughout my hockey “career” I recognized I had this underlying passion of helping people. This is where my journey of becoming a counsellor came into play. On my spare time, I enjoy spending it with family, friends and my fur child, Bentley!

A philosophy that I live by is that everyone has the ability and deserves to experience positive change and live their true, authentic, happy selves. However, I recognise this can be much easier said than done, so incorporating self-compassion and patience for yourself is beyond important and very much needed. As Ellen would say “Be kind to one another” and yourself!

I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare after a chiropractor helped rehabilitate my knee following a hockey injury back in high school. I attended the University of Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. I then moved to San Francisco and attended Palmer College of Chiropractic West. After living in California for four years, I decided to return to Canada and chose Vancouver as my home. I grew up leading an active lifestyle, participating in hockey, swim club, baseball, football, and soccer, and I personally witnessed the firsthand benefits of chiropractic care.

I’m passionate about being a chiropractor because I find immense joy in helping people achieve optimal health and well-being through natural, non-invasive methods. Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of chiropractic care, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of my patients’ journey towards a pain-free and vibrant life.

Ever since I witnessed the transformative power of naturopathic medicine in people’s lives, I was hooked. Whether it’s persistent infections that have made you learn the names of major antibiotics, bloating that has you changing into sweatpants, or hormone fluctuations that make you question your whole life, know that there may be another path forward for you, and I am here to support you as you take the next step.

Naturopathic Medicine is rooted in treating the whole body, and frankly, I believe most of us have more than one area that is giving us a hard time. My goal is to distill down the situation to what is practical and just makes sense.

Beyond the treatment room, I’m passionate about learning and sharing what I’ve found helpful. You might find me hosting my monthly workshops at Local Health, conducting webinars, or at a used bookstore trying to decide which book I must give up.

My Philosophy:

I credit my dog for teaching me the greatest lesson – time is our most precious resource. We are co-creating our perspective of our life and there is a way to convert what is heavy lead to gold. My goal every day is to see it as a new opportunity, another day to plant a seed of change or protect what needs to grow.

After working in western medicine as an LPN for 10 years, I was looking to diversify my treatment approach. Having found relief from various physical and psychosocial symptoms through Traditional Chinese Medicine myself, I decided to pursue Acupuncture.

I spent the early years in my nursing career working in a hospice facility. It was here that I witnessed firsthand what happens when pathologies are caught at a later stage and treated with only pharmaceuticals. The TCM diagnostic approach allows us to see deficiencies and imbalances before they progress to disease. This is why I so strongly believes in the preventative vs. curative approach to Eastern medicine, as well as treating the ‘root’ before the ‘branch’.

Since receiving my acupuncture diploma in 2019, I have completed additional training in facial rejuvenation cosmetic acupuncture, and Acusculpting certification for boosting whole body collagen production and metabolism.

We have a lot to learn from our bodies if we just take the time and care to listen. My goal as an Acupuncturist is to enable my patients to hear what their body is whispering so that it never has to scream.

I am a queer, white settler born and raised in the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples (Vancouver), as well as the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), and Kwantlen peoples (Maple Ridge). As a teen I experienced firsthand the transformational benefits of counselling. After which I became a co-facilitator of a girl’s support group for at-risk teens; that experience inspired me to devote my life’s work to helping professions with the hope of one day becoming a counsellor. Before being a counsellor, I worked and volunteered with children, youth, and adults in the fields of adult education, mental health, substance use, and street outreach. I believe my previous experience has given me a breadth of understanding in how to support people across the lifespan with various challenges and needs. As a counsellor, I believe I bring that experience along with a sense of warmth and authenticity to the counselling room. When I am not counselling, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, attending events, being in nature, doing yoga, meditating, swimming, and painting.

Currently, I have completed my coursework in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and practicums at the SFU Counselling Clinic, Health Initiative for Men (HIM), and QMUNITY. I have had training and/or have studied in the areas of Exposure and Response Prevention, Anxiety Intervention Support, Person Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Process Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Advanced Gender-Affirming Primary Care, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1). I have also completed training in mental health first aid and intercultural communication. Additionally, I am a student in the Gottman Institute’s professional training on Couples Therapy (Level 2) and the Buehler Institute’s Foundations of Sex Therapy Program.

I strongly believe in the power of affirmative and holistic counselling. I strive to support my clients through an intersectional lens and believe that each person has a unique perspective and context that deserves to be validated and respected. My approach to counselling is gentle, collaborative, and strengths based. In my work, I support my clients in strengthening their understanding of their own story while holding space and empathy for the complexities of their human experience. As a previous educator, you may find that I often provide psychoeducation when appropriate as a part of my practice.

I am accepting both individual and relationship counselling clients. My Philosophy is simple: every person is unique. Every path to healing is unique. Everything shows up for us in the exact right moment. Every person has capabilities and power beyond what they realize. In today’s society, we’ve become accustomed to settling and accepting the way things are rather than focusing on the exciting possibilities and opportunities that are right in front of us. Using a combination of hypnotherapy and intuitive coaching, I take clients into their subconscious mind to gain a deep and powerful understanding about what’s troubling them and what they may be struggling with. I work with clients to shift their subconcious beliefs and to help them find what motivates them to achieve their goals. I have successfully helped clients quit smoking. Others have found relief from social anxiety, learned to speak up for themselves, put a stop to “people pleasing” behaviour by realizing who they really are and what they want. If you’re here, you’re ready, and I’m excited to support you every step of the way. Let’s do this together!

Massage has always been a part of Josh’s life. Growing up Filipinx, massage exchange was common between generations and massage was freely given from grandparents, parents and children within the family. So as he grew older, it was only natural that he would practice on friends and family. Josh eventually discovered his other passion in life - dance. As his dance technique became more sophisticated he found that his massage therapy skills mirrored that sophistication as well. Complementing his art, he decided to further his studies in this field. Now, as a registered massage therapist he is excited to share his passion with the public.

His style draws predominantly from his schooling in Holistic Spa Therapy and Registered Massage Therapy program to treat a range of orthopedic and systemic conditions. This includes pregnancy and postpartum, surgical scars, chronic pain, neuralgia, and of course muscle tension and back, neck and shoulder pain. Josh strives to include proper stretching, healthy habits, and injury prevention as other aspects of health within an active rehabilitation plan to provide his clients with the most positive outcome. He believes people are unique, complex individuals and that our bodies innately know how to heal ourselves. With this in mind he intends to be a facilitator of this healing through moment to moment listening of the body and apply movement

When not at work Josh can be found dancing, making art or hanging out with his big family.

Over the years, my massage practice has evolved from a general practice to a focus on women’s health and perinatal care, specifically postpartum care (including scar tissue management post cesarean section).

Since becoming a Registered Massage Therapist in 2014, my appreciation for healing, holistic wellness and the body’s intricacies has grown into a passion that I’m grateful to be able to share with my patients! I have experience working with a wide variety of conditions, but especially love to assist with: chronic pain, stress management, pregnancy and postnatal care, injuries, scar tissue, digestive conditions, and headache relief. Outside of work you’ll most often find me reading, cooking/baking, sewing, gardening, or trying to catch one last glimpse of the sunset!

I believe in approaching healing holistically, in a way that is collaborative, integrative, educational, and tailored to each patient’s unique situation and goals. I strive to give patient-centered treatments that are trauma-informed, queer-inclusive, and body-neutral. It’s important to me that the treatment room be a safe, enjoyable space for you, and I’m always happy to make whatever adjustments are needed (to pressure, positioning, temperature, lights, sound etc.) to help you feel comfortable, so please don’t hesitate to ask!

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at sachiellrickettsrmt@gmail.com

I believe that relationships offer unique opportunities for growth, including in the counselling relationship. For this reason I bring my full self to therapy sessions: as we work together, I will let you know what I think and feel. I will truly care about you. I will bring curiosity, softness, and humour, and I will treat you with honesty and integrity.

My work is person-centered, which means that I will follow you where you want to go, and support you to set the agenda for our work together. I believe in feedback-informed treatment, so I will ask for your thoughts on how we are doing, as a way to learn together about what does and doesn’t work for us. Any exercises or skills that I offer, or decisions I make in our sessions, will be with the intention of helping you.

My “home bases” in the counselling world are relational-cultural, existential, and feminist therapies. I am often curious about themes of meaning, isolation, agency, and how social injustices may influence your well being. I specialize in working with adult women, but I welcome all people to work with me.
